Yamadori Colorado Blue Spruce Part Deux

The first order of business was to arrange the first branch. As it was, it was too high and too far forward, so I decided to pull it back and down. I accomplished this with a guy wire attached to a screw driven into the dead root at the back of the tree.

The next challenge was the arrangement of that branch so that the foliage would not be too far from the trunk. I decided to collapse the branch on itself, creating a foliage pad by coiling the thinner part of the branch leader so that it would again extend to the outside.

This was left unpinched to wait for autumn. The last thing I did this spring was remove one of the leaders, which had grown excessively during the six years in the garden. Following are two views of the results of the work in Spring 2007. The tree as potted leans too far to the right, and too far to the back. These will be remedied at the next repotting.
